Whether it’s a trip to work or a trip to Grandma’s house for Thanksgiving, there’s one thing that keeps you moving and asks for very little in return: Your vehicle. This holiday season give thanks to your vehicle with three simple check-ups that will keep it running smoothly.
Take it in for a rotation/balance service
Periodically changing you’re the position of your vehicle’s tires from front to back or from one side to the other yields several benefits. By enabling each tire to work in several positions promotes even tire wear and a similar tread pattern. In addition, having your tires balance will decrease vibrations felt in the steering wheel and floorboards. Consult your owner’s manual for the best indicator of how often you should get your tires rotated and balanced. As a rule of thumb, 3,000 to 7,000 miles should keep your tread even and provide a smooth ride.
Invest in some new wiper blades for the upcoming winter storms
Since rainy days aren’t too common in North Carolina, windshield wipers are overlooked heading into the holiday season. If you start to hear squeaking or scraping, or you begin seeing streaks and smears when using your windshield wipers, they won’t stand a chance against the harsher winter weather. Be sure to replace your wipers every six months or as soon as you see the aforementioned red flags to keep your windshield clear and the road ahead visible.
Check tire pressure and fill tires to proper PSI
In anticipation of oncoming winter weather, make sure your tires are properly inflated for the best possible handling and traction. There are several reasons to keep your tires properly inflated, including fuel efficiency and even tread wear. To check tire pressure, check your owner’s manual for the proper PSI and use an air pressure gauge on each tire.
And if you’re feeling extra generous, here are a few bonus ways to give thanks to your vehicle:
-Get your car detailed by a local car wash
-Top off all of your fluids
-Check/change out filters
